Future CMS updates/changes #20

increase interoperability by using a more generalized JS object format. One possible solution is tourJSON (an adaptation of TourML into JSON). This would – in theory! – make it easier for multiple institutions to use the code since they – again, in theory – might already have tourJSON-compliant audio tour data. It also means that if someone else puts together a CMS (goal 1) that outputs tourJSON it can be used by this app. (category: maintenance)

allow over-the-air content updates of the app. This would reduce the number of times the app needs to be updated which helps a lot when using ipods with Single App Mode. Currently, these need to be manually unlocked for an app update to take place as the Single App Mode overrides the automatic app updates setting in iOS. (category: enhancement)

Hello, Just a heads up for timing/planning purposes. We've gotten a commitment to devote development resources to the CMS component, starting in late May. I've set up a repository for a planned Drupal 8 distribution called Guidepost, and would hopefully have some "alpha" version available by early July. Having a collaborator/user (and especially a collaborator maintaining a live/production app and all the "production" problems that involves) would been really useful so hopefully we can loop back to this. Cheers!

sounds great – we will do a short term improvement of our existing google spreadsheet (#15) in this upcoming run. Another Swedish museum is coming onboard (don't remember if I mentioned that in Boston) and I'm using that as a way to improve documentation, identify where the pain points are when adopting the app etc.

Hi, quick update. I've got what feels like a working alpha of Guidepost. (and the beginnings of some Documentation). I'm going to be shopping this around internally, but if you find time to test drive that'd be great.

Awesome @ericpugh! I'll take a look at this once our current round of updates are done.

Great to hear that there's interest from other museums! Here's a quick demo of the admin GUI, which may/not be helpful.
