Finding Insteon Devices #519

Closed userbosco closed 2 years ago

userbosco commented 2 years ago

Hi, I've recently installed the Platform Insteonlocal plugin and added all of my ~20 Insteon devices. Installed The Alexa plugin - assuming I'd need this to "pull in" the newly added devices. Not sure if this logic is solid, but made sense to me. Anyways, added the SKILL in Alexa, rebooted the hub, then tried to locate the devices. No joy. Is my strategy even valid, or is there a step required to add them. i see a way to manually add devices under config, but there's no mention of using this in the how to. Thanks again in advance -

Have you asked Alexa to discover devices ? Also is your dashboard on homebridge.ca green ?

There should be no issues with the Insteonlocal plugin as I use it in my setup. And with the Alexa plugin, it finds all your homebridge devices and makes them available for Alexa to discover. No need to individually add them like the Insteon plugin.

Yes, multiple times on the app. Could it be because phone is on wifi instead of wired? That makes zero sense tho. Have rebooted multiple times, too. Head scratcher! Glad to hear someone has got it working tho.

Is your dashboard on homebridge.ca green ? It is pretty good at pointing out setup issues

Mostly gold. Uninstalling and reinstalling the plugin, third try is the charm hopefully

userbosco commented 2 years ago

Hey again - Alexa says SKILL is linked (received email verification). Still no devices found in Alexa. Also verified PIN. Completely at a loss. Does it matter if I install the plugin ON the existing Insteon Local plugin? Thanks -

Can you take a screenshoot of the dashboard on homebridge.ca for your account, and share it here. Are there any RED dots?

Alexa Dashboard

NorthernMan54 commented 2 years ago

Did you configure the homebridge-alexa plugin, and include your username and password from homebridge.ca ? The RED dot is saying that the plugin has never contacted the server.

userbosco commented 2 years ago

Yessiree. Used the exact same username and PW for your website. However, I will say the website made me re-register for some reason, although I had been logged in for hours earlier today.

NorthernMan54 commented 2 years ago

Has the RED dot changed yet ? If it hasn't, can you share the log from homebridge, there must be an error showing up there.

NorthernMan54 commented 2 years ago

Also, needing to re-register is very odd. Usernames are case sensitive

NorthernMan54 commented 2 years ago

Did you complete this part of the setup ?

At almost the bottom of that log is this message

5/3/2022, 7:48:27 PM Insteon Local Bridge Alexa ERROR: ( homebridge-alexa) Login to [homebridge.ca](http://homebridge.ca/) failed, please validate your credentials in config.json and restart homebridge.

Pls double and triple check the credentials in the plugin setup

The website seems to be the issue. I believe it has something to do with the errors we're seeing. I have uninstalled and reinstalled, rebooted, verified credentials, pin, refresh, and allow devices. Most recent log:

5/3/2022, 8:10:04 PMAlexa BridgeAlexaERROR: ( homebridge-alexa) Login to homebridge.ca failed, please validate your credentials in config.json and restart homebridge. 5/3/2022, 8:10:24 PMAlexa BridgeAlexaalexaDiscovery - returned 13 devices

Can my account be wiped and can I re-register?

NorthernMan54 commented 2 years ago

Yes you can, there is a delete account option on the homebridge.ca menu, and it will remove the account.

Hate to say it, but this cloud host site seems tweaked. I verified email, but it stayed red. So I logged out, and tried logging in with the exact same credentials I had just used - no go. Asking me to re-register. It's not working. I'll try another browser, but I suspect the inability to communicate w/ your servers isn't on this side.

userbosco commented 2 years ago

I figured it out! The cloud reg/login IS, repeat IS case sensitive on username. All devices found! Sweet. Thanks for helping read the matrix tonight sir! :-]

NorthernMan54 commented 2 years ago

Sir, I'm very glad you figured out the issue with getting started. I hope the rest of your journey is more smooth.
