Configuration issues with the latest version (1.3 v2.2022.1) #40

Closed mrflamist closed 2 years ago

mrflamist commented 2 years ago

Summary:

Novetus client launcher refuses to read information from the config file (at least not correctly) but is capable of writing. Everything other than graphics options gets reset. The theme selection doesn't work and shows up as a blank field on start. The launcher claims it is version 1.0, despite the correct version number being up in the title. Please see the screenshots and the error log pasted below for more info. Other than that, the launcher functions as intended (or at least as good as my friend's launcher).

System info:

OS: Windows 7 Professional x64 Redistributables:

Steps taken to try and resolve this:

-moving the files to the desktop -moving them to the "C:\Novetus\" directory -opening the launcher from "Novetus_launcher_legacy.bat" -opening the launcher from "NovetusBootstrapper.exe" -setting the "Novetus.exe" to start as an administartor -enabling Windows Features like Media Player, Internet Explorer 8, etc.

Screenshots:

All input fields return to default after reopening: image

Options menu as it appears when opening Novetus: image

Trying to change themes: image

However, it appears the Novetus launcher sees the config file as it can save the settings: image

Changing the "style" variable from "3" to "2" or "1" does seem to do something: image

Here are the contents of that error message:

See the end of this message for details on invoking
just-in-time (JIT) debugging instead of this dialog box.

************** JIT Debugging **************
To enable just-in-time (JIT) debugging, the .config file for this
application or computer (machine.config) must have the
jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section.
The application must also be compiled with debugging
enabled.

For example:

<configuration>
    <system.windows.forms jitDebugging="true" />
</configuration>

When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception
will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the computer
rather than be handled by this dialog box.

this is caused by not extracting Novetus all the way or running Novetus from the 7z file. You NEED to extract the entirety of Novetus before running it. This is part of why the readme isn't showing up in the options and there's an error caused by special splashes.

Bitl commented 2 years ago

This seems to be a deeper issue than just unextracted files, will investigate

Having the same issue here, the only difference is im on Windows 10.

fixed as of the latest snapshot
