If a very early FPGA is being auto loaded which doesn't support version readback, the user will be unable to open the device. If they can't open the device, they cannot erase the FPGA region of flash to disable autoloading of this old FPGA.
Addressed with a workaround in commit f8a6b912efaaac5eda0586b003b47a71ec1c4997.
