Question about VW MST2 and 5.1 system #1

Hi. After reading your post on drive2.ru I started wondering if it would be possible to enable 6 audio channels in MIB2 VW Discover Media to add subwoofer driven by the internal amplifier instead of external one connected over MOST. Restoring missing subwoofer on an Audi is one thing. But what about units/cars that never had that option from the factory?

mattcabb commented 2 years ago

to answer my own question: it looks like MST2 in Seat had this option from the factory: 9VD audio system with sub in trunk driven from the 5F unit, without external amp. So it should work in MK7 as well.

Exactly. I believe every MIB1/MIB2 unit could work in 6 channel mode

I've created separate repo to log my research (+ maybe a simple web app to analyze datasets). It looks like my unit (VW MST2 Technisat) is not using the 0x3B00 dataset. It was empty by default, uploading data to it does not enable 5-slider equalizer. Will investigate more. Thanks!

Quick update for anyone interested in retrofitting 9VD into VW with MST2 system. Connected two additional speakers to quadlock, doded 0x5F, bytes 4-7 with FF 0A 00 00, send dataset to 0x003000 with parameters from Seat Leon (SE373-9VD-K8D-L0L), rebooted the unit. No joy... No sound from extra speakers, no new controls, fault in 5F about incorrect coding. Back to stock system for now.
