I think it is better to set openerTabId when a new tab is opened. The tab will be a child of the current tab.

Would you accept this change?

Thanks temeteke! This is a great addition. It is merged and thanks to this I can remove a lot of workaround code and the add-on now behaves better in Firefox. It will be released soon on AMO.
