I agree with this, but I think another section of shared.lua would be a pain, I
think it's too full as it is.
I think we need an overhaul of shared.lua, we could change it into;
jobs.lua
agendas.lua
doors.lua
categories.lua
Then this would allow even easier capability for even more things, like group
chats, in chats.lua :P

Yes it would definately be good to have a folder of sometype with different
files to make DarkRP more user friendly.

There are two ways to go about doing this (that I can see), and neither are
very likely:
1) Hard-code the categories into showteamtabs.lua and put jobs in certain
categories based on what # they are in the shared.lua list. This is very
impractical because every time you add or remove a custom job, you have to
redefine the whole list. I do this on my server because my jobs are set in
stone and my derma is custom, I do not recommend this at all.
2) Append an extra variable to each job type with a specific number. 1,
non-essential; 2, merchant; 3, criminals; etc. I have already posted such an
idea to Falco and from what I gather it would be a lot more work than what the
outcome is worth.
Yes it's a great idea but I imagine it would take significant restructuring of
the existing job setup.

Grunged is right, I see no reason to add another thing to making teams.
Besides, there are just a few jobs you can group, cops and gang would be
groups. Most of the custom jobs would either be in that category or the "other"
category.
I don't think it's necessary to make this.
