Identify solutions to achievement gaps that lead to inequity #80

Possible solutions

-Better measure learning in our courses (CC work with Office of Educational Assessment to come up with tools/metrics)

-Increase active learning in our classrooms as a proven tool to decrease URM performance gap (CC with input from Jose, Chelsea and others)

- Already in progress for many courses

- Meeting with Center for Teaching & Learning to help us develop metrics for evaluating how “active” our courses are, or to hire CTL evaluators. Can these evaluations be used for P&T, in conjunction with traditional peer teaching evaluations? (CC, CTL)

- Survey faculty to identify how we are currently using active learning, and where folks want training (CC)

- Provide training in short sessions within SAFS (i.e. at faculty meetings; CC, Jose, Chelsea)

-Catching students before gaps happen (use resources for Peer TAs to help us check in for large lectures, and reach out to students)

-Identify places in our degrees that could be “check-in point classes”, so we can evaluating knowledge retention, performance, attrition of URM students as they progress towards matriculation. (CC)
