Hi @Mat-moran,

Yes, but I'm waiting for this #1174 to be merged to 16.0 before continue with the migration to 17.0.

Have there been any thoughts on using the new payment methods in standard Odoo and merge it with the OCA payment modes?

What do you mean by "new payment methods"? Payment methods exist since a lot, and it's only the base, but it's not set at partner level nor on the documents, and it's very few granular.

I am refering to this from the release notes:

At the moment, I don't know how this is supposed to work. Just a thought wether these payment methods have a similar functionality or not.

I think that's something for e-commerce, isn't it? In any case, please check better in which thing it consists, and come back with a summary to judge.
