improve histogram #208

Small PR to add a histogram, and update the leadtime from 2&4 to 3 months as this is what is used for the trigger now.

yeah you are totally right, it is kind of messy. I decided to add some comments to the general flow. It is still not perfect, but hope it makes it a little better.
