Open sanjayankur31 opened 2 years ago
I'm still interested in working on this of course :man_dancing:
I'll want to work on this too. :100:
:+1:
Thanks folks. We'll wait till the end of this week, 23 October, for more people to join, and then proceed.
Interested! :)
Hi! I'm interested in joining this task force. Regards, Eliane
I would be interested in joining this task force. I can volunteer a couple of hours per week :)
Thanks for all your interest @mstimberg @brenthuisman @ree-gupta @elianecr @dissagaliyeva
Please fill out this whenisgood as soon as possible, and latest by the end of this week (28th October) so we can have an initial meeting next week to get things started:
Please remember to select your time zone when filling it in. And, please select all the slots that work for you. The more slots we all select, the more likely we are able to find one that works for us all.
Hi folks, just a reminder---please fill in the whenisgood if you haven't yet:
Hi folks!
Thanks for filling in the whenisgood. We couldnt' find a time to fit everyone, which is, unfortunately, expected in a global community. Sorry about that. We'll keep meeting notes etc. as usual, and we'll need to decide on an async discussion platform too.
We will meet on Wednesday, November 2, at 1500 UTC on our usual Jitsi link:
https://meet.jit.si/moderated/27ddeaff25933944fea1937f182235d48de7c2dd59dc2f84f8eebb26a8fc07ab
Calendar invite here (you'll need to rename the file to remove the .txt
at the end to import it to your calendar app).
software-wg-simulator-selector-taskforce-initial.ics.txt
I'll see you all there :)
Hi everyone,
Just a reminder of the meeting today. Here's the jitsi link:
https://meet.jit.si/moderated/27ddeaff25933944fea1937f182235d48de7c2dd59dc2f84f8eebb26a8fc07ab
Cheers
I've started the jitsi call now folks, please join at your convenience.
Our shared doc folks: https://hackmd.io/@sanjayankur31/B1thUbeSo
Hi everyone, a quick reminder that the task force will meet tomorrow (Wednesday, Nov 15th) at 14:00 UTC. I will share the meeting link during the day. Don't forget to have a look at the existing simulator lists before the meeting and note your thoughts on inclusion/exclusion criteria, useful tags/metadata, etc. in the shared doc: https://hackmd.io/@sanjayankur31/B1thUbeSo
See you tomorrow
I'll be coming straight from a departmental seminar in a different part of the building so I'll probably be 5 mins late.
hey guys! did the meeting start? I can't access through the other link :c
Hi @dissagaliyeva No, it did not start yet, it'll start in ~40min at 14:00 UTC: https://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/fixedtime.html?msg=SoftwareWG+simulator+resource+taskforce+meeting&iso=20221116T14&p1=1440&ah=1
@mstimberg thank you! I think I will never get used to the time zones lmao
Hi guys! I am in a meeting with my supervisor, maybe I will be a few minutes late too...

Hi everyone, our meeting starts in a few minutes. I've created a Zoom meeting here, hope Zoom is ok for everyone: https://hackmd.io/@mstimberg/SyGzUwMUj I also created a shared documents for notes, the agenda is very short for now, but I think we'll spend a fair amount of time discussing what people added to the notes from the last meeting: https://hackmd.io/8GCjcf2hSvy8iWjzgrdNHg
The Zoom link is actually a HackMD link.
And obviously it would be helpful to not just give two different links to the shared document, but also an actual link to the Zoom meeting... here it is: https://cnrs.zoom.us/j/98625321292?pwd=RmczZm1HZU1IR2p4RUtMMDJaZTBCUT09
Reminder, we'll have another task force meeting this Wednesday (Nov 30th) at 1400 UTC. Here's a Zoom meeting link: https://cnrs.zoom.us/j/95982304898?pwd=NXZlSVJGRHM3QTloNUZFVllpbkVTdz09
I tried to consolidate the notes from the previous meetings a bit, you can find them here: https://hackmd.io/@mstimberg/HJXqYPMPo
I also realized a bit late that I promised to send links to review papers about different types of models – here are two papers I had in mind:
@mstimberg thanks a lot!
Hi everyone, I just started the meeting, hope to see you all there. :movie_camera: : https://cnrs.zoom.us/j/95982304898?pwd=NXZlSVJGRHM3QTloNUZFVllpbkVTdz09 :notebook: https://hackmd.io/@mstimberg/HJaMfJrwo/edit
Oh no! I'm sorry i thought the meeting is in 50 minutes! Running home now🏃♀️

hey guys! sorry, my data was up in the middle of the call :(
Anyways, here's my idea of the layout that is essentially the extension of @mstimberg 's idea. I loved the layout with clickable choices, so I thought it would be great to leave it but add some other components. Here's the link: https://comfortable-instinctive-jobaria.glitch.me/
First, add the navigation bar to the home page, a list of all models, and a glossary. Then, on the left leave @mstimberg's idea, on the right see the distribution of simulation-specific models. This part should be clickable so that users can get the simulation results on click (for now it just shows the number of available models). There's also an option to cross out unnecessary options to give users the possibility to select several options.
Original:
without single neuron and other:
I also added a card option to include tags, so that users are able to search by them as well.
OpenNeuro or some other site that I couldn't find previously had a pie chart to find datasets based on data types (fMRI, PET, EEG, ...), organizations, and diseases. I loved that layout and wanted to have something similar to it since everything could be found in one place with all the stats :) plus, it wouldn't overwhelm people with different choices!
@dissagaliyeva Many thanks for your prototype, I added it to our meeting notes – please have a look to find what else we discussed. I think your comments resonate a lot with our discussions: e.g. we agreed that it would be nice to have some "live preview" while you narrow down the choices, and that we need something "beginner-friendly" that takes the user by the hand, in particular if they don't know the jargon yet. One other thing that most (all?) of us found nice was the rating/ranking approach of http://oss-watch.ac.uk/apps/licdiff/ (the visual design and the wall of text is not that great, though  ) – instead of removing options that don't fulfill all the criteria, it just pushes them to the bottom and ranks all results by the number of fulfilled criteria. This could be useful for us as well. In particular, for a very specific combination of criteria you might find that no simulator matches all of them, but if e.g. you consider learning Python, there are plenty :-)
Hope to see you at the next meeting – same time (I'll make sure to include a local-time-calculating link next time ), Wednesday, December 14th.
@mstimberg thanks a lot for the detailed reply! awesome, glad the prototype closely aligns with the discussion :) Actually, putting them at the bottom is a great idea!
I was also thinking about the way to list all simulations. What if we list the packages according to the stats of how many people use/download them monthly? Personally, it would be important for me to know which packages are most commonly used in everyday life; thus it would not be a subjective/alphabetical listing. As far as I remember, PyPI has that kind of info. However, if it's not deployed there, it would be a problem.
P.S., I've put it into my calendar, and now I will always remember that the meeting is at 6 pm my time haha. Sorry about that again!
Hi all, I was hoping to inform about my unavailability for the next meeting on 14th December as I have a scheduled soft skills' workshop on the same day, that is, 14th Nov 0900 to 1700 CET. I did not bring this up earlier as I was on a waitlist, I only received an email about spot confirmation now. I will try to write down some of my suggestions about the "wizard" here or on the shared notes before the meeting, :) Apologies for the change of plans.
I am so sorry for the super late notice, but I am down with a cold, my son is ill as well, and so I won't be able to chair today's meeting 😬 This means that we are down 3 of the usual participants. Probably it makes sense to postpone? I could make it next week, but not sure about your end of year holiday plans. Maybe move it all the way to January?
Sorry again about the late notice, I completely forgot...
Get well, Marcel!
Postpone to jan might be best, I expect even more people vacationing next week.
@mstimberg oh no! Hope you all get better soon! Sure, we can postpone it, don't worry :)
Hope you and your son get better!! I also agree to postpone it to january...

Hi everyone and thanks for all the good wishes back in December 🙏 And of course Happy New Year to everyone, may 2023 be a good one 😀
Should we have our meeting this Wednesday (Jan 4th) or are some of you still on holiday? Please add a little 👍 if the date works for you.
Happy New Year, everyone! :)
Happy new year!
I'm back to work, but I have standing sprint meetings on alternate Wednesdays. So I can make it next Wednesday, but not tomorrow (and then alternate Wednesdays from next Wednesday onwards).
In that case I propose we have a proper start into 2023 next week, i.e. meet on Jan 11th instead of this week. It would be a bit silly if we synchronized with @sanjayankur31 's schedule in a way that he could never join 😀
That'll be great :)
So, our next meeting will be on 11th Jan at 1400 UTC, and perhaps every two weeks from then on?
So, our next meeting will be on 11th Jan at 1400 UTC, and perhaps every two weeks from then on?
Exactly, at least that's what I'd like to propose.
Hi and happy new year everyone :)
I am on leave till 18th January, so I think I will be able to join the regular meetings only from the week after, that is, 25th January.
I've a meet running until 1430 that day. If we could move/shift it, that would be preferred.
Ok @brenthuisman, from my side it could be at a different time during the afternoon (but not in the morning). For everyone that can make Jan 11th, could you please fill out this whenisgood (with very few options): https://whenisgood.net/84f3kfi_taskforce ? Please choose the time that works for you until the end of the week. And note that you can chose your timezone at the top
Done!
Thanks to everyone who replied, let's have our meeting this Wednesday, Jan 11th, at 15:00 UTC (time in your timezone). We'll use the following zoom link: https://cnrs.zoom.us/j/94318654323?pwd=ZnAzVzNCSXRKTm5mZHdPNHNGd2Ivdz09
Looking forward to seeing you all there!

@dissagaliyeva Sorry to hear that, see you in a bit!
Hi all -- i apologize, seems like my entire Zoom stack is failing [after 3 years of virtual meetings, at that]. I don't want to hold up the meeting too much. I'll try joining as a spectator. Please go on with the meeting, and I'll listen in when I can [successfully] re-join!
I will come in to the next meeting with a more reliable setup!
Please see this ticket for more information on the task:
https://github.com/OCNS/SoftwareWG/issues/61
We would like to set up a task force to deliver the first version of a resources that allows users to quickly decide on what simulator/toll they should/want to use. Please comment on this ticket if you would like to join the task force.
