[x] Fixes direct-comparison (seems like plotting was broken from CairoMakie breaking change)
[x] Add compats
[x] Removes heavy deps that are not used
[x] Fixed some of the missing deps

Should be good to go, all the examples are now running. I intentionally kept the compats tight because we don't have CI running here to check for breakages

Thank you @avik-pal ! Do you think we can set up the CI to check all runs well? This is something I had been postponing for a long time, but it will be a good idea to have. Do you think you can include it in this PR?
