Merge odm2rest_1_0 branch (Don's wholly new code base) into master #20

@lsetiawan asked earlier this week if we should merge his odm2rest_1_0 branch into master, so his new code base can come up to full prominence. I agreed, but he's been on leave this week.

The old code base is already saved in the branch odm2rest_legacy.

Opening this issue to track the merge, in case something gets tricky.
