  1. We will not be making a recommendation to deduplicating diagnosis. We believe the opportunity for error is higher than what would be gained. (Can keep all diagnosis records)

In this OHDSI Forum post, it gives one suggestion on how to deal with duplicate (same) diagnosis records.

I am not convinced this ratified. I would like to discuss with the group so I will move to needs more work.

Interesting question. Of course, there is only one diabetes, and duplicating it does not change that fact. The only time this could make sense if there are several cases of the same disease in parallel, like everything topical: You can have two moles, and two abscesses, and in any one visit only one of them might be treated. Not sure we have the data to support that complexity, and I don't think the position should be the way to distinguish them.
