I would like to request two new cost-concepts.

concept_id code name class concept validity domain vocab
to be assigned OMOP generated Patient liability Summary Standard Valid Cost Cost
to be assigned OMOP generated Patient liability Detail Standard Valid Cost Cost

@gowthamrao:

What is this summary and detail business? We will need to explain this.

gowthamrao commented 6 years ago

Thanks @cgreich

Summary and Detail are precordinated concepts (cocnept-class) that were agreed by the CDM & Vocabulary work-group - to ensure cost concepts are not confused. In healthcare, generally, there are two types of claim

  1. summary (header) level - i.e. the cost of the entire claim
  2. detail (line) level - components that when added up equals summary

in practice, they don't roll-up cleanly (for various reasons). The workgroup was worried that if we dont precordinate the concepts, analysts may be double counting detail level and summary level.

@gowthamrao:

the class_concept_id is not part of the name. Should we rather create things like "Itemized sell rate" and "Summary sell rate" or "Total sell rate"? Remember: These concepts have to make sense to people who don't know the vernacular of your world.

gowthamrao commented 6 years ago

Thank you @cgreich

That does make sense - if we argue that concept_class should not be used to determine the meaning of the concept, and the entire meaning of the concept should be contained in the concept-name.

Its a little hard now because we have precedence for using concept_class to inform the meaning of the concept (as discussed and agreed in the CDM and Vocabulary workgroup). http://athena.ohdsi.org/search-terms/terms?vocabulary=Cost&page=1&pageSize=15&query=&sort=concept_name&order=asc

But if we have violated a rule, then we could potentially correct them all - if we have to. It will be a lot of renaming, but it could be done I think.

Please see request for two additional cost concepts

concept_id code name class concept validity domain vocab
to be assigned OMOP generated Patient liability Summary Standard Valid Cost Cost
to be assigned OMOP generated Patient liability Detail Standard Valid Cost Cost
to be assigned OMOP generated actual acquisition cost Summary Standard Valid Cost Cost
to be assigned OMOP generated actual acquisition cost Detail Standard Valid Cost Cost

Actual acquisition cost (AAC) - amount paid by a pharmacy or other health care provider after all discounts, rebates and other price concessions have been deducted.

dimshitc commented 6 years ago

ok. we are going to add them: one small change = capitalize the first word. actual acquisition cost -> Actual acquisition cost
