Hello, @ted9219 I understand your confusion. Unfortunately, this is how ATC works. I find this one video by Christian very helpful. If you want to use ATC in your studies, this is must-watch to understand limitations of this vocabulary in OHDSI.
I will keep this issue open as an example of a problem. As of now, ATC refresh is planned for Summer release, August 2024
Thank you for your reply @TinyRickC137 This video is also very helpful for understanding the deep side of the ATC code system. I think all researchers have to keep this in their mind and review their concept set tightly not only depending on the concept hierarchy.
Describe the problem in content or desired feature Some concepts are mismapped in the classification concept. People expect "ACE inhibitors, plain (concept_id = 21601784; concept_code = 'C09AA')" to have only the concepts representing single ACE inhibitor ingredients, not containing the combination drugs (like ACEi/HCTZ, ACEi/CCB).
But, I found that some combination drugs are included in the descendant concepts of this concept link.
I'm confused that this mapping is appropriate based on the specific definition of classification, but I would like to report this because many people expect this concept to have only concepts representing a single ingredient of ACE inhibitor. but even if they allow the combination concepts, it seems like doesn't contain all the combination concepts including ACEi.
Similarly, in the case of the concept "ANGIOTENSIN II RECEPTOR BLOCKERS (ARBs), COMBINATIONS" (concept_id = 21601832, concept_code = 'C09D') link, many people are expecting this concept and its descendant concepts to have only the combination drug concepts but they also have the single ingredients, so researchers are confused whether we can use the classification hierarchy for the study.
How to find it We wanted to group the patients by the classification concepts about the antihypertensive drugs (also considered the single agent user/combination drug user) and found that some concepts are duplicated in groups.
Expected adjustments But I don't clear whether I understand the definition of the classification concept. so please advise me.
