COVID-19 financing data #14

Sorry I didn't explain that well at all. From my understand GHED breaks down COVID-19 spending by different function like spending on COVID-19 vaccines, medical goods, and testing. I was thinking we could look at how different income groups/regions financed their COVID-19 response in 2020 as a point of analysis as well. This may be too much detail for a topic page though. But I like your idea of looking at the data for 2020 and seeing if there is some inference we could make on spending.

Add data on covid spending

jm-rivera commented 1 year ago

@nupur-parikh for our purposes there's very little COVID data. But that doesn't mean we couldn't/shouldn't use it. Would you mind having a look to see if you think there's analysis that would be useful/interest? It's ok if there isn't.

This data is in USD current covid_spending.csv

Thanks Jorge for pulling this together so quickly! Looking through the file, I'm not sure there's much of a helpful analysis here for the purpose of the page, since most of the countries represented here are high-income, it would be skewed pretty heavily and show an incomplete picture of low and lower middle income country spending.

If we do use this, it makes sense to me to look just at total spending by income category. The other option would be just to pull out some key findings in a key number or text section of the topic page and note that the data is very limited and does not represent all COVID-19 spending in all countries for 2020.
