What does the data say? Are there enough countries with data? From when?

Is this a place to look at the covid data?

@jm-rivera disease specific financing from GHED data

jm-rivera commented 1 year ago

Hi @nupur-parikh, we are looking into this data in more detail. @lpicci96 will be making some changes to the structure in our database to improve our coverage of disease-specific financing. I'm OOO tomorrow so we'll pick it up on Monday. Sorry for the delay on this one

GHED played me again

@jm-rivera the data on infectious diseases in our collection is actually the full dataset that GHED makes available. But in their documentation, many more infectious disease indicators are included. See the full list in annex 2 of their documentation - screenshot below.

However, in the dataset not all these indicators are available. Only the following are available: DIS.1, DIS.1.1, DIS.1.2, DIS.1.3, DIS.1.6 and DIS.1.9.2 highlighted below.

so @jm-rivera I think it is safe to calculate a "other" indicator from those that are provided since logically from their documentation, the subcategories + sub-subcategories should add up to the total, and they also include an indicator "Other and unspecified infectious and parasitic diseases" DIS.1.nec No need to change update our collection

@nupur-parikh maybe you know why these other indicators are missing?

However, from your initial comment @jm-rivera if you are interested in covid specific data, GHED released a special reporting item for COVID-19, which is in our indicator ghed_current_health_expenditure_by_health_care_function which included the GHED indicators below

thanks @lpicci96 @jm-rivera, this is interesting I was under the assumption based on their full report that some disease/type specific financing is missing because of data collection and reporting issues. Given, they didn't start collecting these indicators until recently many countries do not report, so I'm assuming they omit ones they have little or no reporting.

Is this also the case for Reproductive Health? I'd assume that would be the same, but it's curious they list so many indicators if they are missing.

lpicci96 commented 1 year ago

Yes it is the case for reproductive health. Here are the indictors that GHED actually publishes. Specifically they don't publish 2.2 and 2.nec (Perinatal conditions and unspecified) image

@lpicci96 thank you!! these are the diseases/conditions we'd want to show anyways, the missing indicators are not as relevant to what we want to show so thank you again for clarifying!

@jm-rivera (for next week) is it possible to show something like this: image Instead of aid this would be showing total health spending by sector with a drop down for countries/income groups in total USD? and in the pop up can we show what share of this total is from external, out-of-pocket, domestic government, pre-paid private? That may be too much so please let me know if so or if you have any other suggestions!

and another chart like this image that would show share of total health spending on selected sectors with a drop down for countries/income groups. The selected sectors: HIV/AIDS, TB, Malaria, Maternal Health, Family Planning, and NCDs. Again, let me know if this is impossible.

As always thank you both for your help and patience with this!
