There is still some functionality to add before merging:

[ ] correlation functions
[ ] 0 counter

I tried to review but will need simple docstrings in functions with _ or __ and proper documentation on the user-accessible functions. I see for some of them you started but best to finish before we merge with main.

For the user-accessible functions, please also say what the function is for.
