Change CSV delimiter/separator when saving #83

Open markkuit opened 6 years ago

markkuit commented 6 years ago

Do you want to request a feature or report a bug? Feature

What is the current behavior? There seems to be no way to set a CSV separator different than comma when saving as CSV. Can't choose a delimiter either. I found out the doc mentions it, but those options don't seem to be available in the desktop version.

Which versions of DesktopEditors, and which OS are affected by this issue? Did this work in previous versions of DesktopEditors? 4.8.6.386

I imagine someone coming across this and saying CSV is dead and no one uses it but I've seen a surprising number of cases where the use of various CSV file types are alive and well. Also if you're saving conversational text data, comma-delimited can cause problems because most conversational data will have commas. Some other separator is ideal.

I can't say whether or not this should be a priority for the ONLYOFFICE team, only that it's not a dead format. I can say that LibreOffice already has a pretty good lock on broad format capability, with their CSV options pictured below:

If the priority for ONLYOFFICE is usability and good object management, that won't hurt my feelings.

markkuit commented 6 years ago

I can confirm CSV is still very much used in data exchange (which is, incidentally, the case I needed it for) and quite often the separator is not comma. This is literally the only issue preventing me from using and recommending ONLYOFFICE in my work day and work place.

markkuit commented 4 years ago

Is this in the roadmap by any chance yet?

EddFigueiredo commented 3 years ago

Can't believe this was reported in 2018 and to this day no one did anything... Now that most distros are using OnlyOffice this became a huge problem

Rita-Bubnova commented 3 years ago

Sorry, currently there is no news regarding this issue. Also in 2018 we forgot to mention here, but this is issue 36923 in our private issue tracker.

markkuit commented 3 years ago

I (and my team) simply since ended up switching to another office solution, as the disregard for this was absurd to deal with.

cnieman commented 3 years ago

Someone just brought ONLYOFFICE to my attention, but not being able to set the delimiter (and, to a lesser extent, character encoding) when saving a CSV is a deal breaker for me. It is the first thing I tested as it is something we use regularly. I hope to be able to revisit your office suite in the future when this basic functionality is added.

Mroussigne commented 3 years ago

Any news regarding this feature request ?

ShockwaveNN commented 3 years ago

@Grumbyy Sorry, no news, we'll comment here as soon as our dev team will have free time to implement it

Mroussigne commented 3 years ago

Thanks, I am looking forward to it

SjoerdV commented 2 years ago

Really looking forward to this feature being added

bbrother92 commented 2 years ago

Please fix this important issue

AlejandroMoneoMartinez commented 2 years ago

Please fix this, it's very important to save CSV into different separators...

thedevale commented 2 years ago

Please

leofabris commented 2 years ago

Any news?

Rita-Bubnova commented 2 years ago

@leofabris, sorry, no news.

Foosec commented 1 year ago

Bump on this one, as everyone probably knows, its very common to see semicolons or even pipe characters as delimiters. Perhaps this and #982 could be done together? Since it seems to be this isn't programmed because the format selection relies on the OS file selection window under Save As. Perhaps an Export button with the UI inside the editor would be better suited?

JayRugMan commented 1 year ago

Can we get some kind of status on this. Is this something that's just too difficult to do or not a concern for developers? I imported as CSV and it was able to ask where the delimiters were. Can't the same/similar dialogue be used in export or save?

Rita-Bubnova commented 1 year ago

@JayRugMan, sorry, I'm just a QA specialist, I can't answer this question, unfortunately. You better contact sales@onlyoffice.com.

Bumping up the issue. Hopefully can be implemented soon!

kawaiier commented 8 months ago

Would be great to implement the feature

svtcpx commented 5 months ago

This is a BASIC requirement when working with CSV files, especially when working internationally.

scwall commented 3 months ago

Hello, Is it still on? We also need it for our use

fabianofa commented 3 months ago

Right now the alternative is to have LibreOffice Calc and this one in the same system, copy and paste the cells into LibreOffice, then save as, pick csv and check the "Edit filter settings", which btw is a very good reference for what should be done, and then change the settings you want there.

The fact this is almost 7 years old issue is very weird. As said, field and string delimiters, with the charset, are basic settings when dealing with CSV.

nvkv commented 3 months ago

Oh, what a peculiar antiquity. Yes, this feature is much needed. It's ridiculous I have to use LibreOffice to save CSVs from spreadsheets I have prepared in OnlyOffice. Kind of defeats the purpose.

marcosdly commented 3 months ago

So while opening the file I can choose between separators I didn't even know could be used, but I can only save as comma-separated? Sackable.

DinossauroProductions commented 3 months ago

I am a game developer and I'm trying to use .csv files to serve as lookup tables for game data, which is a huge portion of the game I am developing. It is quite bizarre that this feature is now implemented, as I felt that it should be a basic feature of any software supporting .csv file formats. I come from brazil, where the decimal separator is "," and if I am required to put any decimal numbers in my database, I just have to make all sorts of loops, like opening the file on another editor, selecting all "," and substituting them for ";". Come on guys, it can't be that hard to implement, and given the amount of people asking for it in this issue, I think it should be a priority at this point. It's been pointed out 6 years ago and the development team should be aware of this already.

OskyEdz commented 2 weeks ago

This is the # 6 oldest feature request on this github. I gave the first comment 1 my thumbs up to be prioritized.

scwall commented 2 days ago

Still no news on this feature? we're obliged to install libreoffice to do this on most corporate PCs. @alexeybannov 🤣
