Pivot Tables with external data source lose formatting #2111

Open erenoglu opened 1 year ago

erenoglu commented 1 year ago

This issue is unique.

Operating System

Linux (DEB package)

Version information

7.2.1

Expected Behavior

When I open an excel xlsx file with an embedded pivot table, I expect only office to open it equally well and show me the pivot table with pivot table settings, proper formatting of the table, expand/collapse buttons (+-) at rows, if possible with slices as well. This pivot table was created in Excel, and opens well in WPS.

Actual Behavior

The pivot table opens as a normal table, does not allow any manipulation of the pivot table functions, rows cannot be collapsed or expanded, filters and other pivot options can't be set, formatting is not there, basically none of the pivot table functions are available.

Reproduction Steps

  1. Create a pivot table in Microsoft Excel
  2. Open the file in Only Office
  3. Notice that pivot table is shown as a normal table, no pivot functions, no formatting

Hello, @erenoglu

I can't reproduce this problem. Could you please attach a sample file?

erenoglu commented 1 year ago

I think I understood the problem now. The Excel file in question has an "external data connection" and when run, gets the latest data from an online database (a CRM system). That data is saved with the file though, as the option "save source data with file" is selected in pivot table options.

WPS office correctly manages to read this cached data and display the pivot table properly (WPS also cannot update data from online source). While Onlyoffice only shows an semi-formatted table in place of the pivot and no pivot table functions.

However, if I open a file with the Pivot Table source data stored in a sepatate sheet in the same file, then the pivot table renders correctly and all functions seem to work.

Not sure how I can attach a simple file as the data in question has an online connection to company systems and I can't send it.

I only update this file using Excel twice a month, by manually enabling the data connection and pushing Excel to read the latest data. Then other times I just use it read-only with the cached data using Pivot Table. I dont try to update each time I open it. As WPS is able to open and show the pivot, I hope Onlyoffice could also do the same.

I can confirm - this is bug, issue 46493 in our private issue tracker. Thank you for report.

Moving this issue to DocumentServer repo, since it's our base product and problem actual there too.

erenoglu commented 1 year ago

Thanks, will be looking forward for the resolution.

Hi, would there be any updates on this issue? I'm still unable to use OnlyOffice because of this bug.

alinasafonova commented 1 year ago

@erenoglu Sorry, no news

erenoglu commented 1 year ago

Would there be any news or shall I give up waiting on this?

Contacting sales team to fix an R&D problem? I didn't get it. Anyway I think will give up on onlyoffice. Thanks a lot.
