Hello! @GeoffClements, Please clarify, are you using a system installed on a physical machine or are you using a virtual machine?
Сlarify the specifications of your machine.
Does the loading animation in the plugin window last forever? In the field of the document does not appear the inscription "Please insert some citation into the document."?
The correct order of actions when using the plugin is:
(when inserting a bibliography after a citation, you do not need to re-check the box next to the publication)
Hello!
Please clarify, are you using a system installed on a physical machine or are you using a virtual machine?
It's a physical machine. Specs: Operating System: KDE neon 5.27 KDE Plasma Version: 5.27.6 KDE Frameworks Version: 5.108.0 Qt Version: 5.15.10 Kernel Version: 5.19.0-46-generic (64-bit) Graphics Platform: X11 Processors: 8 × Intel® Core™ i7-6700K CPU @ 4.00GHz Memory: 15.6 GiB of RAM Graphics Processor: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti/PCIe/SSE2
Does the loading animation in the plugin window last forever?
No, probably a second at most.
In the field of the document does not appear the inscription "Please insert some citation into the document."?
Nothing appears in the document, i.e. the citation field does not appear.
Here's a screenshot where I've selected a citation for insertion into my document:
And now I press "Insert Citation"
and that's all I get.
@GeoffClements Does the problem persist when inserting every bibliography or just a specific one?
It's on every one that I've tried.
For a bit of extra information this happens on both my laptop and desktop PC. I did think there may be a problem with my Zotero setup so I regenerated my Zotero key for ONLYOffice but I still have this problem.
I'm also having this issue, I've tried on multiple distributions, it keeps happening, forcing me to use the onlyoffice web editor. what is this issue?
I have the same issue. Cannot insert citations.
@jaspythonis, @sati-bodhi Could you please tell me which operating system is installed on your computer? Is it Linux, Windows, or something else?
Unfortunately, we're currently unable to reproduce the issue on our computers. I would greatly appreciate any information you can provide regarding this problem.

I am running Ubuntu 22.04
Same here on Ubuntu 23.10 with OnlyOffice 8.0.0.99 (Flatpak). I can search and select a citation, but it hangs when I click on "Insert citation" or "Refresh". When I click on "Insert Bibliography" it prints Please insert some citation into the document.
to the document.
I can just close the plugin and then reopen its tab to stop the blur.
Having the same issue on OnlyOffice on Ubuntu 22.04
It still happening on Ubuntu 24.04 running OnlyOffice Desktop 8.0.1
My team and I have this issue, as well. Affected systems:
Onlyoffice Desktop Editors 8.1.1.27 (flatpak), Fedora 40
Onlyoffice Community Server / Nextcloud Hub Clients are running Firefox on macOS and Fedora 40.
To add: @VladimirProkofiev52 it seems like this issue might be related to something in the Zotero API, since we have been able to reliably reproduce it after a day of adding research items into Zotero. We really badly need a fix, and if it helps at all I can share a Zotero collection that will be able to reproduce this issue.
It seems to be working now on my computer (Fedora 40, OnlyOffice 8.1.1.27 (flatpak)), maybe it was solved on Zotero's side? Can someone still reproduce it?

I still have this problem with version 8.1.1.27 (flatpak)
I'm on KDE Neon which is based on Ubuntu LTS releases. KDE Neon has just moved from Ubuntu 22.04 to 24.04. The upgrade path caused me problems (unrelated to this) so I ended up installing the OS from scratch so I had to set up a new Zotero key and it did work on the first attempt and then stopped working after I stopped and restarted ONLYoffice.
Anyway, this is just another piece to this puzzle.
Pressing insert citation causes the Zotero pane to blur and stay that way, nothing is inserted. The same happens when the refresh button is hit.
However, references can be searched and found as normal.
Using ONLYOFFICE Desktop Editors version 7.4.0.163 (flatpak) on Linux.
