The most commonly ways of citing a paper are citing the full author at the end of the sentence or citing only the year:

[....] (Müller et al., 2015) [...] as shown by Müller et al. (2015)

The second option is currently not possible with the Zotero plugin. In Libre Office you can click on the citation you wish for and edit it, so only the year is shown.
