The docs in the repo are a mess as source rst, generated, and other docs are in doc_source and get compiled into docs for deployment on the GitHub page. Ideally, there should be only one docs directy to contain both source and compiled documentation; however, GitHub does not allow configuration of the directory used for GitHub pages. Need to determine if the compiled docs can coexist in the same docs directory and make appropriate config changes if possible. The docs dir should be able to store docs that are not part of the GitHub page.
