[MERGE AFTER 10th Jan] Make host-context $HOME available inside the container #25

These changes make it possible to access the totality of the user's host-context $HOME from within the container-context via bind mount trickery and symlink shenanigans. Shameema prefers that this be merged after the workshop which is in the evening of 9th January.

I don't believe we need or want this anymore as we're moving more toward containing classes & tutorials instead of opening them up.
