hi ed, im getting questions about the handbooks distributed at kubecon. some people are asking if washing your hands is really having an impact on mental help or ridiculing the efforts we are trying to make.
is this a recommendation in one of the handbooks? to wash your hands? if so, i suggest this is removed! while having good hygiene can impact mental health (tho not impact mental illness significantly), i do not believe washing your hands will.
Our response:
Hi Jennifer,
The hand washing recommendation is in the General Wellness Tips section. This is meant to be a few quick reminders for overall health. I wasn't sure if people were asking if the hand washing was included to ridicule mental health efforts or if you meant those as two separate things. I can assure you that nothing in this manual was added to ridicule mental health care. The General Wellness Tips section was meant as some quick overall health reminders because getting a cold or flu at a conference or afterwards can really affect anxiety about future events and mental health issues can be more difficult to manage when someone is fighting a physical ailment at the same time. I will make a note that this section needs some more explanation. Please pass along any other feedback you receive. We are always looking for ways to improve the things we do.
Thanks,
Beth
P.S. I'm sorry you had to deal with that man from Germany. Responses like that are so frustrating!
