I am using OSVR-Steam VR plugin and DK1 openHMD driver according to instructions found on this forum.
Some Steam VR programs works but for some reason most of them either:
a) Have red screen in HMD (usually helps restarting steam VR and OSVR server and/or reseting yaw and that it works ok)
b) Steam VR overlay window steals focus from started steam app - usually steam vr app works but NO SOUND and usually VR UI button elements do not react so it's stucked to some menu screen - when I return focus by clicking on the app icon by mouse (or ALT-TAB) - sound starts but HMD gets RED/BLACK screen or image is corrupted (images overlay, maybe caused by wrong resolution or all is shifted - i guess VR is displayed on wrong part of extended screen)
This issue applies for almost all Steam VR apps (Alice VR eg,) .
Working apps (these games works fully ok) : The Lab, Apollo 11 VR, Dimensional Intersection, Realities, Solus Project, Accounting VR and few others
This problems also arises in Unreal Engine 4 editor using Steam VR plugin - has red screen on HMD.
I've ordered newer Nvidia card (GTX 1060), which would maybe work better around direct/extended mode. I intended to use it with direct mode, but reading on this forum, i'm not sure, if Direct Mode will work using OSVR even using VR works compatible card?
I've also invested many hours to try direct mode but steam VR gets Compositor not found error. Propably can be solved by that newer VR ready GFX card.
Steps to reproduce the problem
Run OSVR server
Run Steam
Run SteamVR - status overlay shows green and ready
Run Steam VR app (ALICE VR eg.)
How can the problem be reproduced?
Not sure what is so specific about this problem but it may be very related to Oculus DK1 openHMD driver in extended mode.
The problem is only using some specific Steam VR apps (most of them). Not sure what the other apps do different that some works and some results to red/black screen.
System configuration
Oculus DK1,
Razer Hydra (these works great),
OSVR-openHMD ver 1.0.2,
Latest SteamVR (now also tried Steam VR beta where should be some fix to window focus stealing - it resulted directly having black screen)
Graphics card(s): NVidia GTX 760
