Explore what's possible with Fourwinds

davekellam commented 7 years ago

Seems like fourwinds is a non-starter for the purposes of the website. We could make use of the AI file provided to create a one-page helper with data points for various locations within the building.

Thanks, Dave. Let me know if it would be helpful for a designer to work on this

More info from Gabrield posted to Basecamp

Got a JSON source written up from the word doc Gabriel provided. Using that to display information when a user enters a call number.

Will tackle the floor plan graphic part of it next.

kpettinga commented 7 years ago

@Jessdwilson @davekellam I've got the graphics wired up now. The only thing we now need is to get a reference from the client for which call numbers belong to which rooms.

Jessdwilson commented 7 years ago

From Gabriel:

Here are the highlighted call number spaces and ranges each of these areas correspond to a range

subjects and call number ranges 2x

Here is the data that powers our digital wayfinding. We list out the corresponding call number ranges and sections. Look for the sheet that says "callNumbers&Ranges" master space locations list2.xlsx

It occurred to me that it might be the easiest for me to assign the correct call number ranges in the wayfinding. I know this part of wayfinding is a little cryptic, and there's a lot of idiosyncratic information to translate. So maybe when it's built out to a certain level, I can take over the fine tuning. This might be the most efficient approach.

@gabrielo-cuc From what I can tell in your spreadsheet, the ID column corresponds to the individual rooms on each floor. But there's no way for me to tell what room each number corresponds to in the graphic. Can you provide me with some kind of annotation?

gabriel-ortiz commented 6 years ago

@kpettinga for sure I'll work on that today Thanks so much

gabriel-ortiz commented 6 years ago

@kpettinga Hey man, here's an annotated version of our call # locations... I know I have 3rd grader handwriting.. sorry about that haha. LMK id you need anything else!

Thanks @gabrielo-cuc I've updated the items in call-numbers.json with a new property room_int (room integer). This number corresponds to the ID of a particular <path> element in each floor SVG. You should be able to punch in a call number and have the correct room be highlighted now.

@gabrielo-cuc one thing that I wasn't sure how to account for in the JSON were the "Folios". Is the word "folio" part of the call number? To test it out I looked for some music items on worldcat but all the call numbers still just started with "M" followed by a series of numbers.

What do call numbers look like for items that qualify as a "folio"?
