Positive inputs from technosphere of treatment activities are turned into negative reference products by copying the original exchange and inverting the amount sign. The original amount is set to zero to indicate deletion.

This shouldn't really be necessary - it does literally nothing to the technosphere matrix - but in the ecospold2 format the reference product has to be an output. I have always thought that it would make more sense to have waste treatment processes have a reference product of a waste treatment service, and have the actual waste be an input. But in any case this is what we will start with.

@ecoinvent Can you provide an unambiguous test for what is considered a treatment activity? I don't see anything direct in the data format.
