Insider version does not load localized strings for the ribbon (?) #500

Hi there,

I tested the Insider-Version and I noticed that the menue entries in the ribbon are not loaded in German, but in English in my German Excel 2016 Insider Slow Version 1706 Build 8229.2073 . The task panes are loading the localized strings correctly.

In the Script Lab About dialogue, German and Beta have been automatically set as language and as current environment. I did the following steps to load & test the Insider-Version:

Hi,

for playing, I changed the country code in the script-lab-insiders.xml from Locale="de" to Locale="de-de". This worked and the strings in the ribbon are in German now.

I then tried the local dev version and I had the same problem, that in the current dev version the ribbon menue entries appear in English. If I change the locale from de to de-de in the dev manifest and refresh my Add-Ins, then it works in the dev version again and the menue entries are in German. In my previous versions, de worked fine for me, while translating.

I will not exclude, that something happened to my Excel/Office Slow Insider version, as while doing this above and opening Excel several times, sometimes Excel moved to the Add-In section from the Insert tab to the backstage and reverted this on a next run. Same in Word and PowerPoint too for me.

Not sure if it's perhaps a sideloading on the network share issue? @saunders77 , could you please try it out / investigate?

Hi,

for your info, I think, I have some bigger problems with my Office install since today. Besides the move of the store to the backstage (and back), the icons on the home tab (only) for Word and PowerPoint (but not in Excel, One Note and Outlook) are all suddenly gone and I see an empty space. Appeared after I switched Office from German to English and back and back again, if I remember well.

Tried a quick repair, did not help. Tried an online repair, it uninstalled it and did nothing more then. Tried to re-install it (Slow insider), same problem. Tried also to rollback to a previous version of Slow Insider, the problem persists. I think, I will now fully uninstall Office and try to install it again. Takes some time...

You might also try resetting the ribbon: https://wordribbon.tips.net/T009568_Resetting_Ribbons_to_Their_Default.html

... And potentially "send a frown" (top-right) to let Office know about this issue.

BTW, as far as the store button movement, don't worry about it. It was an experimental feature that was rolled out to a small group of folks on the insider track, but the experiment must have been reverted or scaled back...

Thank you Michael :-)

I uninstalled and reinstalled Office 2016 and the ribbon in Word kept as is. So, resetting helped and all is fine again. I am now on Version 1705 Build 8201.2102 (Slow Insider, previous version compared to the one cited above) and tested sideloading the script-lab-insiders.xml. I have the same behaviour, meaning the ribbon menue entries are in English and the task panes in German. Changing the locale to de-de in the manifest solves the problem.

Ok, i am hoping that @saunders77 can help with that

Hi there,

thanks for releasing the latest version of Script Lab :+1:

The task panes are for me in German now and I can switch to English or Spanish too. I also installed Script Lab in Excel Online (on my personal account) and it works fine there too.

However, the menu entries in the ribbon both for desktop and online are for me in English. So, the problem with the ribbon entries mentionned above is also available in the version from the store.
