If you recycle ammo, then load that ammo straight from the processor to the weapon, the stack of ammo resets its count to what the weapon had prior to reloading.
For example, if you recycle ammo that normally has 30 rounds, then load that directly from the processor into a weapon that has 21 rounds left, you now have a stack of 21 rounds in your inventory.

Also, if you load ammo from the processor and the gun is empty, the stack will completely disappear until you relog.
