[Linux] Nickname Changes Do Not Work #175

Open GoogleCodeExporter opened 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
Trying to change the nickname of a dwarf has no effect.

In the attached log file I started up dt, tried to change the nickname of
Sibrek Koganrithlut (in Wave 2 of immigration) to FOOBAR, and then exited.

I'm using

* Mandriva One 2010.0
* Kernel 2.6.31.5-desktop586-1mnb
* i686 AMD Athlon(tm) 7550 Dual-Core Processor

Thanks for the bug report! Unfortunately the Linux version is in alpha and
unsupported. When it is officially released we'll accept bug submissions.

Hi, I have implemented support for nicknames on linux. Attached are a mercurial
bundle with all changes, and the same changes as separate patches for review.
The first patch just tweaks a few things to improve performance of existing
code.

I've been using these for a couple of evenings now, and everything seems to
work OK. I've also tested the case of 64-bit DT controlling a 32-bit game
process once.

Well, there is one issue I've noticed: the military forget their DT-set
nicknames when they kill something. But I think that it is caused by some other
unchanged copy of the name (e.g. in the separate historical figures table)
being used to refresh the creature name, and therefore should not be in any way
linux-specific.
