19 hours ago Is the mod even being worked on anymore? It hasn't been updates for almost a year, but for your idea, it should be optional, depends of what you like, i would love an swimming mode with your hands maybe, but this is a great idea if you want to move your head left or right!
I have been tossing around this idea of a more intuitive controller scheme. The idea is somewhat borrowed from Space Engine which really made an impression with its logical controller scheme for moving in 3D space and I think it would fit perfectly in the 3D underwater spaces of Subnautica.
The idea is to move using your left hand to point at the direction you want to move and pressing the trigger. You could move (swim) in any direction independently of your head, so you could for example peek over your shoulder while swimming to see if you're being followed. The gesture of pointing your hand in a direction also somewhat resembles swimming and fits perfectly with holding a seaglide. In Space Engine there is a red laser pointing out of your left controller to indicate where you are currently pointing at. In Subnautica, this could maybe be a short light blue laser or just rely on the players feeling where their hand is pointing to.
When going on land, the same movement scheme would work but just ignoring any up/downwards direction.
This leaves the right hand to do all other hand actions, such as attacking, using tools and picking items. These hand actions would also point at the direction that the right controller is pointing to, so you could break a rock or fire a stasis bubble precisely in some direction. It would feel quite natural to be chasing a fish with your left hand and trying to grab it with your right hand at the same time.
