[469d] OpenGL renderer micro stutter #1522

Open U99c opened 8 months ago

amd 3600 16gb ram amd 5700xt windows 10 playing on qhd resolution at 144hz

Whilst using the opengl renderer, play is interrupted by micro stutters with regular frequency. This was not an issue in prior versions of UT, including in 469c.

The problem occurred in both an installation where 469d was installed on top of an existing 469c installation, as well as a fresh install of 436 via the gog installer which was then directly updated to 469d.

Of the following other renderers I have tried in 469d, none have experienced micro stutters:

Other notes: 1) I noticed opengl's frame cap feature did not work in 469c. It does in 469d. Could be an area looked at by devs in which something has gone awry.

2) This is an issue because... opengl is the best renderer. dx9 lags when alt-tabbing into the game and has some minor graphical artifacting; dx10 and 11 have about 25% worse performance and some minor graphical artifacting; and xopengl has about 25% worse performance and significant graphical issues. Some great user-made maps require all the performance they can get, meaning the more modern renderers are a significant problem. opengl used to be the best of all worlds, now it's unusable.

You can look at real DX11 renders:

DX11: https://github.com/dpjudas/UT99VulkanDrv - it is new. Not one what be bad from ModDb and make all oiled. Despite name, there not only Vulkan renderer, but also for DX11. Download link: https://github.com/dpjudas/UT99VulkanDrv/releases/latest

ICBIND: https://github.com/metallicafan212/ICBINDx11Drv Download link: https://github.com/metallicafan212/ICBINDx11Drv/releases/latest

I tried dpjudas' dx11 driver and it worked well in a quick session. Thanks for the workaround.

Hopefully a solution will be found for people who for whatever need to use the opengl renderer, though.

I see very bad frame pacing and stuttering in 469d in OpenGL and XOpenGL renderers as well. Everything is fine in 469c. Windows 11 RTX 4070 super
