I don't think much has been tried, but there was only 1 map that had tried to get something set up. I'll refer the map link: http://chamberly.dlfast.de/Files/CTF-NimbusV3.zip
What you will be looking at is this this area between the redwood/open gap walkway to go into the boat. This area have a zone portal used, I think. This one supposed to block some direct shot/projectiles but does not block players.
I haven't seen much of other activities if other people has tried to do such.

As far I remember they don't. It's been like that since Unreal, otherwise SP maps would have not have it's shine.

Can unreal engine block everything EXCEPT light and coronas? In some cases you need to block players, projectiles and bots but not lights and coronas.
The blockall actor does not block pathnodes for instance.
