ll understands patterns like ll *.nim

You may be interested in this - https://github.com/citycide/glob. AFAIK it supports everything normal glob supports except this: Note that the !(...patterns) form that allows for matching anything except the given patterns is not currently supported. This is a limitation in the regex backend.
