Print Auto-Pause #258

Request

Initiate OctoPrint's Pause (and/or generate an event) when the Safety Buffer length is reached, allowing for a spool change and reducing ruined prints and wasted plastic.

Problem

Having configured a short length of filament (~8m) as a spool and set the bowden tube length for the calculations, I put a 14m print on to see what happened. It warned me there was insufficient filament, but did not pause the print when it reached the safety-length specified. The spool now reports as containing -15.7g.

I've also taken the liberty to dig around the repository to some extent, but haven't yet found any reference to any auto-pausing capability. Having said this, I am new to the plugin so may have set this up incorrectly and missed something if this feature is already implemented. If this is the case, may I request some clearer 'general use' instructions?

Background

I'm part of a team running a mini print-farm, and we have a real issue trying to use as much of our filament as possible. Our printers don't have filament sensors and we aren't allowed to modify them. We would very much like to use the last dregs of our spools without risking ruined prints (from undetected empties) or having to manually weigh spools and bin-pack prints to just fit.
