If you are trying to use git that comes installed on OS X, you need to install Xcode as well.
It's probably easiest to do this http://blog.bobbyallen.me/2014/03/07/how-to-install-git-without-having-to-install-xcode-on-macosx/ or use homebrew.
I installed XCode from the store and updated to Yosemite recently. I assume this is going to bite other users as well, so maybe have this documented or bypassed?
