Prompts regarding not being in Puget Sound area. #4

Closed bradyt closed 9 years ago

bradyt commented 9 years ago

Ugh, can't contact re: bugs directly from iPhone app anymore? Is this the right place?

On each opening of OneBusAway, it suggests I am not in the Puget Sound area and asks if I'd like to go there.

Even if I am in Downtown Seattle. Should it wait a moment for the map to initialize?

Thank you, Brady

barbeau commented 9 years ago

@bradyt Are you using the iPhone version of OBA?

We're tracking a problem on iOS with submitting feedback here. I'd suggest commenting there specifically for the problem sending feedback.

We're also tracking a problem with selecting regions properly on iOS here. We've had some problems replicating this, so if you're having issues it would be great if you could comment on that thread. One thing to check in Settings is if the region is set to auto-selection, or if you have a specific region manually selected. You may need to manually set your region to Puget Sound if you have issues with auto-selection.

If you're using a different version of OBA (Android, or others), we'll have to direct your comments elsewhere.

cc'ing @caitbonnar on this for iOS issues.

Well this just raises all kind of issues, and I'm getting sucked into being pushed all over the place.

Not sure why you ask if I'm using an iPhone. It is explicitly mentioned in message above.

You give a link about people trying to report bugs from within app? But when I did this, I got what looks like an autoreply with directions depending on what I want to contact regarding. I will attach it in a second message here. It sends me to iTunes page https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/onebusaway/id329380089?mt=8, which sends me to app website, http://onebusaway.org/, with contact page http://199.191.49.179/p/ContactUs.action. As a user, I am supposed to tweet? Or should I go to FAQ and email onebusaway@soundtransit.org? I am a casual user just trying to shoot off a quick message about some buggy behavior, not a priority to me.

To answer your other question, I was already using "Manually Select Region".

@bradyt Sorry! I missed your iPhone reference in your original comment. Sounds like Sound Transit could use some cleanup in its support email.

The rider-facing email for OBA iPhone app issue support should be iphone-app@onebusaway.org. If you send an email to this address, it will go directly to the iPhone OneBusAway app developers (i.e., @caitbonnar). The Github issues that I linked to are an even more direct link to the developers, if you're having problems with specific known issues and are willing to provide us additional feedback to help solve the problem.

I'll contact Sound Transit and ask them to change the support contact points for the apps.

bradyt commented 9 years ago

Thank you for looking into these links! Will try to report the bug to the right place again soon.

barbeau commented 9 years ago

@bradyt Sound Transit just replied that they'll change their auto-reponse email to include the direct emails to the OBA app developers, instead of the app store links. I agree that the app store links aren't a straightforward way for users to get help, so hopefully this will help clear things up in the future.

Hope this helps! I'll be on the email chain when you contact iphone-app@onebusaway.org, so we can pick up the conversation there. So, I'll close this issue for now.

caitbonnar commented 9 years ago

Sorry, @bradyt about the issue reporting confusion, and thanks @barbeau for talking with SoundTransit!

@bradyt -- I'll open an issue now on the OneBusAway-iphone GitHub with your message. Thank you for reporting! That's something from the newest version, and it appears you have a strange bug with your location handling. I'll try to get it fixed ASAP!
