We need to create a series of meetups around the world and make it easy for developers to self organize.
Proposed structure to make it successful:
Central website to search and announce upcoming meetups. Allow to register, email reminders. Also link with meetup.com.
Each meet up must have a speaker/presenter and a cool topic presented. This attracts developers as it’s a great way to learn from peers.
Each meet up usually had sponsors (recruiting firms, consulting companies). Sponsors pay for pizza, soda and make a small pitch. Initially the sponsors may not be there, so may need small $ assistance to get each group going.
Ask questions, discussion at the end.
These meet ups were occurring monthly or quarterly and was a great way to engage, learn, organize the development community.
Why
Meetups provide for a good way to see technical demos and break the ice new devs. It also makes it "not scary" to try new things, tools, techniques. It builds developer network, make friends, help each other on the projects.
Technical
Each meetup will need a solid technical presenter. Initially this is a challenge until the community has grown. Each local community may need support from a bigger community until membership grown.
