Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.
I really want the extension .lnk to be visible in Directory Opus, my file explorer replacement, so I changed settings to make the .lnk extension always show.
But the one place where I do want the .lnk extension to be hidden is the left panel of Open Shell, because the .lnk extension on every line is distracting and sometimes too wide. For example:
I want to read 'Vivaldi' not Vivaldi, lnk'.
That is, I want the best of both worlds — the .lnk extension visible in Directory Opus and elsewhere, but just not in the Open-Shell left panel.
Describe the solution you'd like
I want a new option in the Open-Shell settings saying:
LEFT PANEL: Hide the .lnk extension for LNK files.
Area of issue
Start menu
Alternatives you've considered
I could go back to what it was before — hiding the .lnk extension all the time — but I have found this to be seriously confusing in any list of files.
Additional context
I am really pleased with the convenience that Open-Shell offers. In particular, I can put all sorts of techie items on the right, like the Local Group Policy Editor, Restart Explorer, and Windows version.
In Windows 10, I used to edit the Win+X menu for this purpose, courtesy of the excellent WinAero, but Windows 11 closed this editing down, and I turned instead to Open-Shell.
And the Windows 7 icon is wonderful. I do enjoy telling M$ every day that their best days are behind them,
