3 New Feature Requests #327

Open TruthGoodLoveWins opened 4 years ago

The first 2 requests are relevant only to the Classic Start Menu style.

  1. Add the option for automatic deletion of the content of the "Recent" folder on every Shutdown, as per Win XP, whereby the Recent folder is automatically emptied, if the user so sets. Preferably add that option in the "Special Items" tab of Open-Shell settings, under "Sort Recent Documents", a new entry: Clear Recent on Shutdown, with a tick box.

  2. Reverse order of opened documents in the recent "Documents" menu, so that the last opened document is at the bottom, and thus closest to mouse pointer, when using the Classic Start Menu style. Preferably also placing that option in the "Special Items" tab of Open-Shell settings, where it says "Sort Recent Documents" > "By Date", adding a new entry: "By Date Reversed".

  3. Add the possibility to create a new file via a button in the Open-Shell toolbar for Windows Explorer. The kind of file one desires to create can be assigned by the user. This would be equal in functionality to the way one can right-click anywhere in Windows and create a new file via the "New" context menu, except for the fact that with this toolbar one wouldn't be constrained by the small selection of Windows context menu choices, one would be able to assign to the button any file type. And if one wanted, one could create more than one button for more than one file type, assigning relevant icons to them as well, for visual differentiation.

The second part of this is adding a new button type among the many already listed in Settings, under the Toolbar Buttons tab. So just like "Create New Folder", there would be a "Create New File". And then of course one would be able to assign one's own icon, just as one can with all the other button types.

My two cents:

  1. That would probably be better handled by Windows, since it would be somewhat intrusive for Open-Shell to clear a list which is made by Windows. You can set up a script to clear this yourself if you want.
  2. Good request, but I think it should be handled differently. Open-Shell already has this option for the "Max recent programs" option, and it is done by using a negative number instead of a positive. Something similar should be done with the recent documents list.
  3. Not much to say about that one, since I don't use Classic Explorer. It sounds like a good addition though.

Thanks for the comments mate. Yes 2 would be a real good addition, much less mouse movement. 3 is a luxury, but would emulate the useful functionality of other 3rd party explorers, which have that new file option. And 1, I'd love Open-Shell to give us that choice, since the software we are (intentionally) using does consciously restore the good ol' appearance, might as well the full functionality too. But as I am no programmer, I am not the one deciding. :)
