Windows Explorer Search regression #389

Open Carkidd opened 4 years ago

Carkidd commented 4 years ago

After the newest Windows update version 2004, the search bar of the explorer window appears to have changed to a different format. It no longer brings up files in the explorer menu below as you search, instead only showing them in a small dropdown menu below, with no option to go to their location. Additionally, on certain websites and applications, when opening explorer to choose a file to upload, the search bar in not able to be clicked and is unusable.

Issue with the search bar being unusable was noticed on 4chan, and discord image uploading buttons.

I noticed this change after windows update 2004, and it overall makes using the search function extremely clunky. I now have to search to find the name, and then type the name in the other explorer bars to find the actual file without just opening it.

Correction- you are able to go to the file location, but only on pressing the arrow key to it's left, and not automatically as you type as in the older version. I think this is a regression to base windows 10 search function, as the UI is not inline with Open Shell's.

Note the square and flat shaded UI around the search bar. The search bar is still unusable in Discord and on 4chan.

This is the best solution I have found for this: Link. You may have to create a script to run this at startup (have the shortcut run as Administrator if you choose to do this).

Apparently that dosen't work on the 2004 version- probably why it broke classic shell's search feature as well.

Wow, you're right. I didn't expect the old version to be removed so quickly. I don't think there is an easy "direct" fix for this, but I do know that the files for the classic search do still exist, it would just take a new rewrite via 3rd party to re-add the classic search and it's functionality.
