Some jumplist entries for Microsoft Edge are missing their favicon #479

With Firefox, everything works alright: image

With legacy Edge, some icons do not show, but the shortcuts themself still work (despite redirecting to the new Chromium Edge, which is intended behavior): image

Chromium Edge also shows no website icons, only the icons for browser actions work, like with legacy Edge: image

And finally Chrome, where not only the icons are not shown at all, but also the shortcuts are broken: image

When clicking on any of these Chrome tasks, a "Missing shortcut" error pops up: image image

Edge doesn't show website icons in the Win10 menu, too, but at least the app icon is displayed: image

Ah, I just noticed the broken Chrome shortcuts don't have anything to do with Open Shell, they're also broken in other default Win10 menus: image image

Looks like a Chrome bug.

Additionally, it seems that Open-Shell cannot display the "Recently Closed" section of the list in Chrome and Edge. I wonder if that should be a separate issue?

NebelNidas commented 4 years ago

@bonzibudd Look at my Edge and Chrome screenshots, the second sections titled Zuletzt geschlossen or Kürzlich geschlossen are the Recently closed ones. So for me it works, perhaps for you it's caused by a different problem?

bonzibudd commented 4 years ago

Hm. I guess it could be a different problem then. I checked in a testing VM, and despite the Windows list having all sections, Open-Shell had only the new tab options. image Here's the Windows one, for reference: image Same deal with non-canary Edge. It stayed the same after a reboot, as well. It seems like something is not being refreshed correctly.

Guys, do you know how to enable these Top Sites and Recently closed categories in jump-lists? I have only Tasks there. Don't know how to get the others :(

@NebelNidas Please, post screenshots in English. It would make it much easier for maintainers. Thank you.

NebelNidas commented 4 years ago

As far as I know, you just have to use the browser for a bit. 🤔🤷‍♀️ As for the screenshots, I thought it would be no problem because the titles aren't that important and would be easily recognizable due to their placement. I didn't know it wouldn't show up for some of you. 😅 I'll try to post them in English next time!

bonzibudd commented 4 years ago

The behavior is strange. The Open-Shell jump list items for both the top sites and recently closed to not populate nearly as quickly as the Windows one. However once they are there, they seem to keep up with the Windows list better.

NebelNidas commented 4 years ago

@bonzibudd So they did finally show up for you, too?

bonzibudd commented 4 years ago

I found the list appearing on a VM. Still not showing on my main machine.

XenHat commented 4 years ago

I just pinned my browser for the first time. Some items immediately obtained icons (no loading transition or anything) while some others did not. image I opened the menu a few times while writing this post and now my entries are gone entirely. image

😖

XenHat commented 4 years ago

Tried again a few times and it got somewhere... one more recent entry, and the second pi-hole entry acquired a favicon (I opened the website manually via the web browser, not the jump list, while the icon was missing) image

NebelNidas commented 4 years ago

@XenHat However, you are using Firefox, whose jump list entries work fine in Open Shell. The issue I'm describing happens with Edge (Chrome seems to have a different problem, independent of Open Shell)

My bad. I'm having issues getting anything to show up in the Edge jumplists but I will keep trying.

bonzibudd commented 4 years ago

I think I found another issue which might be related: The new Windows Terminal preview now has support for Jump lists, and it seems that Open-Shell also displays these items as blank icons, while Windows gives them icons. I’ll post a screenshot when I’m back at my PC.

Pretty funky bug.
