It is not possible to add a new entry without selecting a parameter from the tree view.
Either return the "add" button next to the "X"
Or add a new field "Add custom path" in the selection dialog:
Where the user can add a full path to the parameter. The path should be split by | and the respective entry created. Dimension should be "Dimensionless" (or add a drop-down so the user can select a dimension when adding).
