You should keep it as similar as possible to the original HoN effects, of course while changing it a tiny bit up and adjusting it to dota2 standards. Example of particles from HoN.
Grip
Channel Indicator: Two-point constant electrical beam between Hero and Target upon spell activation; stays until the duration is reached or the spell is cancelled.
Shield
Shield Indicator: Large blue bubble around the Hero upon activation; stays until the duration is reached
Damage Indicator: Small two-point periodic electrical sparks between Hero (starting at edge of shield) and all Targets.
Absorb
Spell Indicator: Medium pink bubble around the Hero upon activation; stays until the duration is reached
Damage Indicator: Small two-point reverse wave particle (like it's sucking the energy from targets) between Target and Hero.
Shock
Buff/Debuff Indicator: Turquoise-blue lightning particles on Target for duration as well as blue-ish tint.
If cast on ally or self, increase model scale by a small % for duration.
Notes
Ensure that both bubbles (shield and absorb) are clearly discernible when both are active.
