Boss Idea: Time Dilation Mechanic, Cassiel #107

Possible Name: Cassiel Stage: Clock face overlay on the ground. Boss: Wields two swords, periodically slams them down on the ground creating Earthshaker-like barriers with them following the hands of the clock, when he puts down his swords he transitions from melee focused to caster focused. Abilities: Time Dilation debuffs, fires a relatively slow moving projectile at an enemy, they are slowed to 1/4 speed (Attack, movement, cooldowns, all of it) for 3 seconds but after 3 seconds they receive a 4x speed boost (same as the last one) for 1.5 seconds. Stasis Traps, Small AOE circles will be summoned that suspends a hero in time, they take no damage until it runs out, when it does they take 2x damage all at once. Decrepit Breath, AOE cone deals light damage and attack debuff, plus a DOT. Player Challenge: The idea is to create a dynamic boss who switches between a right click in your face attack style to a long range zoning style. Putting down the swords constantly changes what options the players have in terms of movement, perhaps even separating them, while stasis traps force quick thinking from them as they dodge time dilation attacks and get out of the decrepit breath AOE. Time Dilation also provides a unique trade off where some heroes might want to be hit to gain the 1.5 seconds of 4x speed, a coordinated team could even buff the person hit with time dilation once the debuff wore off and they are at their strongest.

Thanks for the post! Would the boss be static at the center of the arena (clock), then? Also, when does the boss recover its swords? What does it do while it has those? Additionally, a phase scheme might be nice - after losing some health, or some event, the boss begins to act differently. Maybe add the spells one at a time, so players have time to get used to each.

Any updates on this? If you could format it according to #37 , it would help make your idea clearer and easier to work with.

Name: Cassiel Arena: Clock face overlay on the ground. Boss Description: A tall form in a black hooded cloak with alabaster skin and golden wings. A golden gear serves him as a halo. He wears an hourglass as a necklace and wields two swords, one 1/2 the length of the other. Under the cloak is powerful looking armor, covering all but his arms and face. His eyes are black with flaming gold pupils. I feel like Cassiel should have a lot of armor, even for a boss. His abilities work best when players are given the time to interact with them. The idea is to create a dynamic boss who switches between a right click in your face attack style to a long range zoning style. Putting down the swords constantly changes what options the players have in terms of movement, perhaps even separating them, while stasis traps force quick thinking as they dodge time dilation attacks and get out of the decrepit breath AOE. Time Dilation also provides a unique trade off where some heroes might want to be hit to gain the 1.5 seconds of 4x speed, a coordinated team could even buff the person hit with time dilation once the debuff wore off and they are at their strongest. Phase 1 (100%-75% HP): Begins by fighting with his swords as his hourglass necklace runs down to empty slams his swords down on the ground creating Earthshaker-like barriers following the hands of the clock, when he puts down his swords he transitions from melee focused to caster focused. He will back off and use Time Dilation debuffs, which fires a relatively slow moving projectile at an enemy, they are slowed to 1/4 speed (Attack, movement, cooldowns, all of it) for 3 seconds but after 3 seconds they receive a 4x speed boost (same as the last one) for 1.5 seconds. When the hourglass runs out again he switches back. The timer for Phase 1 is 30 seconds. Phase 2 (75%-45% HP): In melee he reduces attack and movement speed on hit and will begin making short range sweeping attacks every 5 seconds if there are 2 or more heroes in melee range. In caster mode he gains Stasis Traps, Small AOE circles will be summoned that suspends a hero in time, they take no damage until it runs out, when it does they take 2x damage all at once. The hourglass grows larger and the timer for Phase 2 is 20 seconds. Phase 3 (45%-0% HP): The hourglass floats above his halo now, firing slightly speedier Time Dilation projectiles in melee form targeting those out of melee range, and striking nearby enemies in caster mode for a little damage and an improved attack and movement speed slow. gains Decrepit Breath, AOE cone deals light damage and attack debuff, plus a DOT in both modes. In both modes his attack speed and casting frequency are increased. The timer for Phase 3 is 15 seconds.

This is much cleaner. Thank you!
