Consider what functional workflows a host DCC needs to be able to validate flows that make use of managementPolicy, entityTraits, publishing, etc... and the impact of how the behaviour is configured by the tests.
Consider the impact of test-time requirements eg: adding a dependency on a database instance etc.

We've noticed BAL is sometimes used in integrations by folks who don't quite get the possible divergence between multi-manager systems as "the one truth". It having an opinion on things could be contributing to misunderstandings in implementations.
