I believe this is one of the most awesome (must have) features that eBay or many other markets like Craigslist don't have.
No. It's bad idea.
Ad. 1) If you are a seller and have many reseller ( which want commisson from you ) it will be horrible to settlement with your reseller. And who will be moderator for you and reseller. It is nice like idea but I don't see it in practice ... but maybe I am wrong.
Ad.2 ) You are not a seller. But you can buy product from seller and start selling. Easy. It works in real world. Look at problem when you put link to not your product and seller of this product has bad reputation and the product is not good or have more failures ... your reputation goes down.
It is my idea about this. What do you think ?

Someone buys from a seller, the transaction is successfully closed on both sides and a reseller gets his commission. You don't need to introduce any settlement layer, because the reseller will be paid automatically for each finished sale he brings in.
But you can buy product from seller and start selling
That introduces an entry barrier (products storage, postage, products texting/pics, brand marketing, customer service etc, that costs lot of money). Not to mention if I want to sell my own product I'd buy bulk (and cheaper) from alibaba, not OB. Affiliate is way cheaper because you only need to take care of the product marketing as everything else is taken care of by the seller.

Don't link to sellers with bad reputation and shitty products. It's up to you what kind of products you market.
Ok. Let's try and propose this idea to OB. I hope that OB will can create good automation for reseller ( money and products link ). Let's try and look how it works.
@mariodian has this exactly right.
So many product producers don't know how to market and would rather pay a % or full sale value to a marketer so that they can sell their product and/or get the buyers email to then market to them directly on the backend.
I think there should be an affiliate option that allows product owners to have affiliates selling for them.
The whole process should actually be invisible to the end user.
Something like.
1) The product owner creates a store and lists a product. 2) Affiliates sign up to that store as affiliates. 3) Affiliate emails to his list, a product on a store and that item for sale has a unique ID of the affiliate. 4) User buys product. Has no idea affiliate is in the deal. User buys product. 5) After transaction, % agreed goes to affiliate. 6) Should any refunds occur, system can also deduct monies from affiliate who brought in sale.
Any moderation is not done between the affiliate and buyer. It's always seller and buyer.
If you want OB to go huge. Affiliate marketers are the way forward. It's how airbnb and dropbox became so huge!
1) You're a seller that struggles with selling your products. Set up a commission (in %) and let users sell your products.
2) You're not a seller but want to make money without having a product. Find the one you like, generate your affiliate link and bring customers to the sellers.
3) We are openbazaar, marketers share their affiliate links on the Internet and bring more sellers and buyers to the network, which means even more sales for sellers. This could potentially boost the OB usage.
