Cut-thru payments Related to merge avoidance the idea of a cut-thru payment is that if an intermediary is both a debitor and a creditor, with sophisticated payment protocols they can request incoming payments to directly pay outgoing liabilities, skipping them as an intermediary. While premature to implement this feature now, it is worth thinking about for the future.

I'm not yet certain on what this is a countermeasure for.
